Commissioner Gellatly was elected to the Chatham County Commission in 2000.  He is retired after serving 40 years as a police officer, the last 20 years in the capacity of Chief of Police for the City of Savannah. Gellatly holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago.  He is a graduate of the National FBI Academy and served three years as a combat engineer in the United States Army. He and his wife Sylvia have five grown children and eight grandchildren.  The family are active members of White Bluff Presbyterian Church.
