Public Works and Park Services = Road Maintenance, Drainage Maintenance, Solid Waste, Bridges, Water/Sewer.
Through routine maintenance and a work order system, Public Works and Park Services provides for: 1) the safety of the traveling public; 2) efficiency of drainage infrastructure; 3) coordination of boating traffic with vehicular traffic; 4) safe drinking water and sanitary sewage; 5) recycling opportunities; and 6) the collection of yard waste and bulky items. Many of the maintenance functions include mowing of county roadways and canals, grading of dirt roads, installation and repair of traffic signs, sweeping street gutters, repairing roadway failures and damages, striping of roads, cleaning and construction of open and closed storm water drainage conduits, curbside collection of yard waste and bulky items and multiple solid waste drop off centers, and operating of drawbridges.
In addition, citizens have an opportunity to participate and enjoy quality entertainment at state-of-the-art recreational facilities and sporting events. Public Works and Park Services provides safe, useful, and attractive recreational facilities, maintenance of the facilities, and recreational programs and cultural activities throughout the year.
The following facilities are designed to offer a variety of activities for everyone: eleven neighborhood parks, four community parks, thirty-six ball fields, three lighted sports complexes, eighteen lighten tennis courts, a three mile fitness trail, two beach front areas, twenty boat ramps, four fishing piers, a weightlifting center, and an indoor state-of-the-art swimming facility.
