The department, that could be referred to as the sports capital of the Coastal Empire, showcases the finest sports facilities within the southeastern sector of the State of Georgia. It features twenty-six neighborhood parks, four community parks, thirty-six ball fields, three lighted sports complexes, twenty-two lighted tennis courts, a three-mile fitness trail, two beach front areas, fifteen boat ramps, and four fishing piers. Educational and cultural affairs organizations benefit from the use of the department's two portable band shells that are used for outdoor concerts.
